In December 2016, the founding member companies of the GIFCT (Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter, and YouTube), dedicated to creating a shared business database of “hashes” — distinctive digital “fingerprints” — for violent terrorist imagery or terrorist recruitment videos that we now have faraway from our companies. Nonetheless, it can be thrilling to find ways of bringing new modern expertise to bear in ways that are distinctive to the communities they’re meant to serve, or that present us with the insights that we particularly need.
